VON PAPEN ARRESTED
DRAMATIC DEVELOPMENT AT TRIAL FALSE EVIDENCE ALLEGED (Rec. 1.15 p.m.):.'. • BERLIN, February 4. Von Papen was dramatically arrested in the middle of his denazification trial to-day because he had given false evidence. The court’s president said von Papen would be .kept under guard for the remainder of the trial. Reuter’s Nuremberg correspondent reveals that the false evidence for which von Papen was arrested was that he gave misleading .statements to the court relating to Hindenberg’s recommendation in his political testament of 1934, which virtually put Hitler into power. The court president ruled that the previous evidence established that von Papen was responsible for drafting the Hitler recommendation clause in Hindenberg’s statement. . The correspondent added that the denazification court has- sent von Papen back to prison on a charge of perjury, but that his arrest ,will not interfere with von Papen’s trial, which will be resumed to-morrcw.
