GERMAN ELECTIONS

COMMUNISTS MAKING NO HEADWAY PROVINCIAL VOTING (Rec. 10.50 a.m.) LONDON. Dec. 2. The final disposition of seats in the Parliaments of Greater Hesse and Bavaria shows that in Greater Hesse, as compared with the representation constitution-making Assembly, the leading parties retained the advantage but lost some seats to the Right Wing, and a few to the Left. The dominant Christian Socialists in Bavaria lost five seats to the Right Wing. The Communists, who held nine seats in the Constituent Assembly, secured.a total vote exceeding 180,000 but these were so widely distributed that they were nowhere successful in having a candidate elected. The distribution of seats in Greater Hesse is as follows: — Social Democrats 38 Christian Social Union .. .. 28 Liberal Democrats 14 Communists .. . ■ • • ■ • • • 10 In Bavaria the position is:— Christian Social Union . . .. 104 Social Democrats .. .. ■ • • • 54 Economic Reconstruction Party 13 Free Democrats 9 The Associated Press Frankfurt correspondent points out that the vote in Greater Hgsse and Bavaria was held under the supervision of a nation supporting private enterprise and the approved principle of socialisation of utilities and industry. The constitution of Greater Hesse compels socialisation, while Bavaria permits it.
