£5,200,000 SPENT IN PALESTINE COSTS OF IMMIGRATION (Rec. 11 a.m.) LONDON, Dec. 2. Eliezer Kaplan, the Jewish Agency treasurer, revealed that the agency spent £5,200,000 in Palestine in the, first nine months of 1946, including £1,700,000 on immigration, reports Reuter’s Basle correspondent. The Zionist leaders are expected to seek authority' at the World Zionist Congress opening at Basle on December 9 to appeal to world Jewry for £14,000,000 for development work in Palestine. American Jews subscribed 70 per cent, of the £3,600,000 raised in the nine-month period for the Palestine Foundation Fund, which provided two-thirds of the agency’s income of £1,480,000 since 1939, leaving a £ 1,700,000-deficit, after the expenditure in Palestine. Jews will soon receive £2,250,U0U in German reparations through the International Refugee Committee. The American-Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, gets three-fifths ol that sum, and the agency the rest.
