BUS STATION PLAN
COUNCIL UNABLE TO RIND PROPRIETORS TRAFFIC PROBLEMS REPORT “The proposal for a central bus station was discussed, but the traffic officers present told us that if we established such a station we could not compel the bus proprietors to use it." said Cr. P. Blanchfield, commenting at a meeting of the Greymouth Borough Council last evening on the report of a committee of the council which met bus proprietors and traffic officers on Tuesday to discuss traffic problems in the borough. The report stated that the meeting agreed on the following subjects: (1) Double banking of buses in the streets be prohibited. (2) The traffic inspectors to report on a suggestion concerning the stopping of buses so that the buses are not directly opposite each other on both sides of Tainui street. (3) That the traffic inspectors and bus proprietors discuss stopping places and routes for the buses, and report to the council. (4) .That the traffic inspectors investigate safer turning of Road Services buses in the vicinity of McGlashan’s garage. (5) That public time-tables of all bus services be provided by the bus proprietors and displayed in one conspicuous place in the town. . (6) The parking of vehicles exceeding 18 feet in length from the angle parking area in Guinness street be prohibited, and that a 30 degrees angle to the kerb be strictly enforced. . (7) That parking on the riverside of Mawhera quay between Waite and Customs streets be prohibited. The report was approved.
