BASIC WAGE RISE
SMALL ADJUSTMENTS IN AUSTRALIA SYDNEY, October 17. A rise of 1/— in the basic wage will operate shortly in Hobart and Sydney. There will be no change in other capital cities. ' _ . „ _ The wages will then be: Sydney £5 !/-• Melbourne, £4/19/-?; Brisbane, £4/14/-; Adelaide and Western Australia, £4/15/-; Hobart, £4/17/-. The rise applies where the cost of living adjustment in Federal awards is made quarterly. Where awards are adjusted on the average cost of living figures for the six capital cities or 30 towns the- award remains at £4/18/a week.
