FIELDS INSTRUCTOR
NEW APPOINTMENT FOR WEST COAST THE FERTILISER POSITION Advice has been received by the secretary of the West Coast branch of the Farmers’ Union that a fields instructor has been appointed for the West Coast. Since Mr A .D. Mercer was transferred to Auckland at the beginning of the war there has been no such officer in this district. The new instructor, whose name has not yet been announced, is expected to arrive in the next few weeks. On the officer’s arrival a new fertiliser committee for the West Coast, replacing the committee disbanded early this year, will be appointed. It will comprise three members—the fields instructor (chairman), and one representative of the farmers and the merchants respectively. It is understood that the fertiliser position will be only slightly improved in the ensuing rationing period. The allocations are expected to be about the same, but special provision will be made for cases of hardship.
