KAIMATA COLLISION
RAILCAR CRASHES INTO VELOCIPEDE YOUNG MAN INJURED Leaping from a velocipede shortly before it was struck and practically demolished by the GreymouthChristchurch railcar as it emerged from the Kaimata tunnel about 6.30 last evening, Alan Kennington, aged 28, married, of Kaimata, received an injury to his hip and bruising and was admitted to the Grey Hospital. His was' a fortunate escape, however, for the force'of the impact badly damaged the jigger and buckled the cow-catcher of the railcar. With this attachment pressing down on the rails, the railcar could not continue its journey to Christchurch, and passengers remained at Kaimata while the vehicle was replaced by another railcar sent out from Greymouth. Consequently there was a delay of about two hours.
The damaged railcar is expected to be repaired in time to-day to prevent any interference with Easter travel schedules.
