'BIG CATTLE ENTRY CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 14. , An unusually large entry of fat cat- : tie was penned at the Addington sale, ' yesterday, when values eased by. about £ 1 a head, though the sale was a sound one. Store sheep values also dropped, though fat sheep were generally firm on last week's rates. Store Sheep.—The wether entry I (the first for some weeks) was divided into two pens, and these sold well at 27/6 and 30/- respectively; but for the remainder of the offering, ■ the’sale wals disapponiting to ven-j dors. A small line of two-tooths in j lamb to Southdown rams made 35/-, i and a pen of sound-mouth ewes in I lamb to Southdown rams made from 27/6 to 29/-. A large line from Meth.ven of five-year-old ewes in lamb to English Leicester rams sold in lots | from 19/7 to 22/2. Ewes and lambs I alsd met with a somewhat dragging j sale. Two pens of good sheep made 19/- all counted, but the remainder mostly old and backward-conditioned ewes,'sold at from 8/- to 11/3, nil | counted. A pen of two-tooth empty i owes sold for 32/-. Two pens of good quality ewe hoggets failed to reach. Hie reserve of 42/- and were passed t in ;it 39/6. The next best pen made, 33/6. Eesl wether hoggets made up to 26/1, and medium sold from 20/7 | io 23/-.

Fat Hoggets.—Extra prime hoggets to 45/1; prime, 40/7 to 44/4; good, 33/7 to 35/10; medium, 26/4 to 29/7; light, to 25/-. Spring Lambs. —The biggest draft so far this season (14) sent in by J. D. Galpin, Southbridge, sold from •13/7 to 46/7, with one small pen at 35/6. Others sold from 37/1 to 42/7, and lighter lambs made from 30/7 Io 32/7.

j Fat Sheep.—The yarding was ap- ■ i proximately 4000 against 5000 hist [week, and included a larger penning |of wethers than usual. The market ' 1 opened steadily at last, week's prices, ‘|but during the middle stages there I'was a slight easing in the demand. .This decline, however, was recovered ‘ over the final offerings. Prune medium-weight ewes 23/6 lo 27/-. Light ewes to 21/-. Fat Cattle. —The entry was the largest for .some time, the total being -320 head as against 465 last week. Quality was outstanding, the proportion of prime steers and heifers being the largest to the total penning since before the Winter. Except for some truck lots from the West Coast, these all came-from within the province. Top prices included: Williams Bros. (Fox Glacier). 5 cows at £l4/17/6 to £l6/12/6, 12 heifers al £l4/17/6 to £l7/2/6, 15 steers at £ 18/2/6 to £2l/2/6. Values were: Extra prime steers, £2.1/10/- to £24/7/6. Prime steers, £l3/15/- to *£2o/10/-. Prime medium-weight steers, £l7 to £lB 10/-. Ordinary steers, £l4 io £l5 10/-. Light steers, to £l3/10/-. Extra prime heifers. £l6 to £l9/12/6. Prime heifers, £l3 to £l5. Medium heifers, £lO/15/- to £l2. Light heifers, to £9/10/-. Extra prime cows to £l6/17/6. Prime cows, £lO/5/to £l2/5/-. Medium cows, £B/5/- to £9/15/-. Light cojvs, to £7/10/-. Vealers. —Large runners, £B/6/- to £l2/11/-; others, £5/6/- to £B/2/6. Prime vealers, £5/16/- to £B/16/-; medium, £4/3/6 to £5/11/-. Large calves, 56/- to 76/-; medium, 38/- to 54/-; small and rough, 18/- to 36/-. Store Cattle.—One pen of 13 threevear Shorthorn-Hereford cross steers sold at £l2/8/6, another of six yearling heifers, dairy bred, £7. Dairy Cattle.—Best second and third calvers made from £lO to £l4, good average sorts £7 to £9/10/-, others, including low-conditioned, cows in profit, aged and inferior, and unattractive sorts, £3 to £6/10/-. Best heifers made from £lO/10/- to £l4/10/-, good £8 to £lO, medium £6 to £7/10/-, and small and unattractive £4 to £5/15/-.

Fat Pigs.—Light porkers, 49/6 to 58/6: medium, £3/1/6 to £3/7/6; heavy. £3/8/6 to £3/18/6. Choppers, £6/8/6 to £lO/8/6. Light baconers. £4/4/6 to £4/12/6; medium. £4 15/6 to £5/2/6; heavv, £5/4/6 to £5/9/6; extra heavv, £5/19/6 to £6 6/-.
