TERMS FOR NEW AWARD. WELLINGTON, February 16. A complete agreement was reached in Conciliation Council to-day on . the application of the New Zealand . Shipping Officers’ Industrial Union of Workers for a new Dominion award, covering shipping clerks. The following annual minimum rates of wages were agreed to, the rates to I commence on the officers attaining their sixteenth birthday, and women on the date of their employment:— Men: First six months £6O; second six months £7B; third six months £9O; four six months £102; fifth six months £114; sixth six months £126; fourth year £145; fifth year £170; sixth year £196; seventh year £220; eighth year £245; ninth year £270; | tenth year £300; eleventh year £310; twelfth year £320. Women: First six months £6O; . second six months £72; third six months £B4; fourth six months £96; . fifth six months £112; sixth six months £126; fourth year £132; fifth year £155; sixth year £175; seventh year £195. , Thereafter increases in salary are [ to be given on merit; provided that, on attaining the age of 21, the employees shall be entitled to receive the basic wage. The annual holidays will be 14 days during the first ten years of service, and 21 days there- , after. ; On transfer to the sea staff as as- ' sistant purser or purser, the scale lor the general clerical staff shall be reduced by £5O a year, provided that, after such deduction, the following shall be the minimum rates payable for the first four years at sea:—First year £72; second year £B4; third year £B6; fourth year £lOB. Toll clerks at Auckland shall be paid on the basis of £312 a year. Those employed doing the work of messengers and enquiry clerks shall be paid a minimum of £2OB a year, rising in minimum annual increments of £l3 a year to £260 a year. Rates for permanent tally clerks, except those in the northern industrial district, were fixed at £25 per month. The hours of work are to be 44 per week. The award remains in force until. March 31, 1944.
