[jUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HOKITIKA, February 17. At a meeting of tne Hokitika Sorough Council, there were present: The Mayor (Mr G. A. Perry), Crs. S. G. Havill, T. W. Duff, C. Caliari, E. AV. Heenan, G. Heinz, A. R. Elcock, and W. H. Stopforth. The treasurer’s statement showed receipts at £1,212/6/11, and expenditure at £1,042/6/9. Accounts amounting to £1,408/2/2 were passed for payment. The abattoir report stated that stock slaughtered for the month was as follow: —20 cows, 28 heifers, 57 bullocks, 267 sheep, 121 lambs, z2 pigs, and one calf. One sheep was condemned. Fees collected for the month amounted to £95/0/10, compared with £B7/11/- in the corresponding month last year. It was decided to advise the authorities concerned that, on account of the effect of extra expenditure on the j finances of the Borough, the Council would not be prepared to find any further sum towards the upkeep of the south side aerodrome, afterMarch 31 next. The Town Clerk reported that, since the inception of the free library service, .the number of subscribers had increased fourfold.—lt was de-I cided to carry on the free service for! a further 12 months. [ The Paroa School Committee was granted the use of Cass Square fori its annual picnic. [ The Hokitika Fire Brigade wrote drawing the Council’s attention to the) danger of serious fire created by the: condition of the old Masonic Hall, at 1 the corner of Hamilton and Revell.
