REMITTANCES TO SOLDIERS

AMENDMENT IN PROCEDURE. To facilitate the handling and dispatch of remittances to the members of the New Zealand Armed Forces serving overseas, a slight amendment is being made in the procedure, according to an announcement by the Minister for Defence (Mr Jones). A special Public Account lodgment slip will be put into operation at the various branches of the Bank of New _ Zealand throughout the Dominion today. i . The new lodgment slip is designed to give full particulars of the soldier, sailor, or airman to whom the remittance is to be sent, the full name and address of the remitter, the cable charge (if the amount is to be cabled) c for transmission of the amount and the method of transmission (by cable jor by air mail). j The public is particularly request- c ed to note that a separate lodgment j slip is required for each individual to v whom money is remitted, except in j cases where remittances are made to groups of persons in the same armed e service. . s There will be no necessity to write j letters, as in the past, to notify to ; • whom the money is to be forwarded, t ; as provision is made on the lodgment s slip for this information. The public E is invited to assist by filling in the c ■ lodgment slip correctly, and sending • the correct portion of the form to the i department concerned. There have been numerous cases c where the lodgment slip has been sent e ; by a relative of a soldier direct to the s : soldier, which is entirely wrong and c ■ I has caused much inquiry and invest!- t 1 gation. 1 The Minister expects good results ■. from the institution of the new lodg- r ’• ment slip, and urges all intending re- r mitters to read the form carefully and r > then fill it in correctly. ’ t
