MOTORIST IMPRISONED. DUNEDIN, July 28. Colliding with a stationary taxi on Saturday night, George Washington Brown, 56, businessmen, this morning, admitted a charge of driving while in a state of intoxication, and was sentenced to seven days’ imprisonment. It was his second offence. BOY’S ILLEGAL RADIO. DUNEDIN, July 28. Unauthorised possession and use of radio transmitting apparatus were admitted by a boy of 16 in the Children’s Court. The police said that three short broadcasts of gramophone records had been made, and after a very lengthy search, were traced to the boy. The police emphasised the grave dangers which could result from unauthorised in time of war. The Magistrate admonished and discharged the boy. He was satisfied the offence had been committed in ignorance of the regulations, but it was nevertheless a serious matter. PRICE TRIBUNAL WELLINGTON, July 27. The appointment of two associate members of the Price Tribunal, Messrs Leo Munro (Auckland) and B; S. Connor (Dunedin) has been announced by the Minister for Industries and Commerce (Mr. Sullivan). Provision for the appointment of not more than two such members who, in the opinion of the Minister, possess expert knowledge of some branch of trade or industry, is made in regulations which have been gazetted. Mr. Munro has had a life-long experience in the grocery and provision trade, both in England and New Zealand. Mr. Connoi’ has had a varied experience with the manufacturing, wholesale, indent, and retail trades, covering general drapery, footwear, and clothing.

HOME GUARD ROTORUA, July The proposed conference among the five area commanders of the Home Guard in the Auckland Province, which was to have been held at Hamilton to-day, was postponed following representations made by the Home Guard headquarters in Wellington and supported by Colonel M. Aldred, officer commanding the Auckland Home Guard. The conference had been called by Major J. H. Herrold, D. 5.0., commander of the No. 2A Area, to consider what action should be taken following the attack made by the Minister for National Service (Mr. Semple) on the Auckland district commander. Confidence in the leadership of Colonel Aldred has been expressed by all the local commanders in the No. 2A Area.
