Mr and Mrs E. Barrett left this morning, on return to Akaroa.

A New York cablegram stated that the violinist, Fritz Kreisler, was knocked down by a truck in Madison Avenue, New York. His skull was fractured and his condition is critcal.

A presentation was made on Friday by the staff of the Grey Power Board to Mr. Gray Parfitt, on the occasion of his departure to Blenheim, to take a position with the Marlborough Power Board.

The death has occurred of Mr. Arthur Henry Ferguson, who was for 35 years clerk of the Hawke’s Bay County Council.' He was born m 1872 in Derbyshire, and retired in 1935.—Press Assn.

Mrs. Lilian. Rose Griffiths, of Reefton, died suddenly at Christchurcn Hospital on Saturday evening. She was a native of Reefton, and aged 50. She is survived by one son and one daughter, her mother, Mrs. Libeau, and one sister, all of Reefton.

The Prime Minister (Mr. Fraser) on his visit to Great Britain will be accompanied by Mr. C. A. Berendsen, permanent head o£ the Prime Minister’s Department, and Mr. C. A. Jeffery, chief private secretary.— Press Association.

The death occurred suddenly, on Saturday night, of Mrs. Nolan, wife of Mr. Thomas Nolan, of Wataroa. Deceased was a member of the ' Walsh family, of Gillespie’s Beach. She leaves her husband and 13 children, also three brothers (John, Greymouth, Thomas, Gillespie’s Beach, and Edward, Wataroa), and four sisters, two of whom reside in the North Island, the others being Mesdames J. Manera, of Ross, and J. Heveldt, of South Canterbury.

The Dominion Executive of the New Zealand National Party has announced the appointment of Mr. T. G. Wilkes as general secretary to the Party. Mr. Wilkes joined the staff of the Wellington division as organiser, on the formation of the Party in 1936. Subsequently, he was attached to Dominion headquarters and acted as chief organiser for the Auckland division in the 1938 election campaign.—Press Assn.

The death occurred yesterday at the Westland Hospital, where she had been receiving treatment for a fractured leg, of Mrs. Ellen Dale, of Woodstock, wife of Mr. Alfred Dale. A native of Stafford, 69 years of age, deceased was a member of the Nolan famiW, of South Westland. She leaves her husband and two sons (Edward, of the New Zealand Expeditionary Forces, and Allred, of Woodstock), and two daughters (Mrs. A. Hyndman and Miss M. Dale, of Woodstock); also six brothers (Denis and Patrick Nolan, of Okuru, Thomas and James, of Wataroa, Andrew, of Koiterangi, and Matthew, of Christchurch) and two sisters (Mesdames F. Heveldt, of Okarlto Forks, and J. Cron, of the Ha a st).
