Mr. Hull, replying to a memorandum from General Franco, asking for joint action by neutrals towards’the-“local-isation of the present conflict,” : approved the step, and reiterate'd the United States readiness to use all its influence in the future, as in the past; for the restoration of the maintenance of peace between the nations.” PATROL OF COASTLINES. WASHINGTON, September 6. Mr. Roosevelt has ordered a patrol by sea and air of the coastline waters of the United States and its possessions, foi’ several hundred miles out from shore, to protect''American neutrality. Hundreds of destroyers are being recommissioned. U.S. LINER HELD UP NEW YORK, September 6. Half the crew of the liner President Roosevelt walked off the ship, because . of the refusal to grant war-risk compensation. Thirty-three thousand dollars worth of orders for military planes remain unfilled at the Southern Californian factory, as a result of the neutrality embargo.
N.Z. ORDERS NULLIFIED. WASHINGTON, September 6. Mr Roosevelt’s second proclamation implements the Neutrality Act machinery for the arms embargo. 1 1 - It is not known whether any Australian and New Zealand orders are involved, but they would also be nullified.
