The fruit industry marketing committee appointed by the. Government held its first sitting in Wellington yesterday. The- Acting-Minister for Marketing (Mr. Lee Martin), who presided, said the function of the-'commit-tee was to recommend, the belt means of carrying into effect requests from the industry that the Government should take- over the marketing of pip fruits, both locally and. overseas. It was not intended to duplicate the investigation already done by the committee which sat in 1937, and reported on all phases of the industry, and it was nor, thought necessary for the present committee to sit outside 1 Wellington. For future meetings of the committee. Mr. F. R. Picot, Director of the Internal Marketing Division, will act as chairman,—‘Press-Assn.
