RUNANGA NOTES

[OCTR OWN COP.REBPONDENT.] Air. T. Williams presided over the annual meeting of the Runanga Branch of the Labour Party, held in the Miners’ Hall last evening. An apology for absence was received from the President. Mr. I-I. Johnson. The balance-sheet, showing a credit of .£l7/1/.?. was held over for consideration at next meeting. The election of officers resulted: President, I Mr. T. Williams (unopposed); vicepresident, Mr. S. Morris; secretary. Mr. W. Duggan; treasurer. Mr. J. Kennedy; committee. Mesdames Wright and Timlin, and Messrs. J. McTaggart. F. Oakley and W. Simpson; auditor, Mr. T. Bowes; delegates to L.R.C.. Messrs. T. Williams and J. McTaggart. Reviewing the activities of the branch during the past year, the President reported that it had been fairly successful, there being a membership at present of 140. Although there were not large attendances at meetings. the members were enthusiastic in the objects of the party. He thought more interest in the branch would be created if arrangements could be made during the Winter for a number of Labour members to visit Runanga and give addresses. Owing to the continued inclement weather, and the possibility of clashing with other fixtures, it. was decided that the annual picnic not he held this year.

In reply to a letter from the Branch, Mr. Webb wrote regarding the demonstration of modern machinery on the pakihi lands at Westport. He stated that an endeavour would be made to have the demonstration held on a day suitable to all. By a small majority decision, it. was decided that the Buller L.R.C. be requested to supply branches with copies of the remits to be discussed at the L.R.C. conference at Westport, some time prior to the meeting, in order that the matters might he discussed by the branches.
