The Dominion Croquet. Council, at its annual meeting, received a letter from the English Association, accepting New Zealand’s challenge to play a match in New Zealand in January or February, 1940, matches lie!ween the above countries and Australia being arranged. It was decided to hold the gold mallet contest at Nelson, and the medals match at Greymouth. INTER-ISLAND MATCH. PALMERSTON N., January 18. As a preliminary to the Dominion croquet, tournament, an inter-island match tv,as played this afternoon at, ; the Northern Club’s greens between ; teams chosen hy Mrs C. Watkins. ; Hastings, and Mr A. J. Gibbs, Patea, ] for the north, and Mr A. G. Ross for 1 the south. The result was a win for ! the south by one game. Anstis (Palmerston North) lost to Mrs Palmer (Christchurch), 11-26; Mrs 11. Kibblewhite (Whitiora) beat Mrs R. J. Teller (Invercargill), 26-23. Doubles —Mrs Watkins and Stratton lost, to Mrs McLeod and Ross. 18-26; Mrs Anstis and Brian lost to Mrs Telford and McCreath, 13-26; Mrs Kibblewhite and Gibbs beat. Mrs Palmer and Penn. 26-24.
