A. strong north-westerly wind tested the seamanship of the crews in the second race for the Cornwell Cup at; Paremata. to-day. and only of the eight, crews finished, Wellington winning easily. Manakau was second and Tauranga third. All the boats, with the exception of Alanakan and Wellington, capsized. The Tauranga crew righted their boat and completed the course. Early in the morning conditions for running the race at. Plinimertbn. where it. was to have been held, were satisfactory; but. the wind increased and this, combined with the rough sea, caused the abandonment of th? race. Conditions did not improve during the day. and it. was decided to hold the race, in the afternoon in the Paremata. inlet. The course was from Duck creek to Brady’s, buoy, to Gray’s buoy, back to the srarting line, twice round, finishing at Brady’s buoy. WIN FOR AUCKLAND. WELLINGTON. January 19. After leading practically all rhe way, rhe Auckland crew won the third Cornwell Cup race. It. was a spectacular contest. Otago was, second and Taurauga third. Manukau was the only other to finish. Plimmerton, Paremata, Wellington and Wanganui capsizing- in that order about, half-way. The race was held at Plimmerton in a strong north-westerly, over a short wind and leeward course.
