AUCKLAND, January 17

The annual tournament of the New Zealand Bowling Association was continued to-day. when the final two rounds of section play in the rinks were completed. The final day s play in the sections was characterised by close games, with teams fighting desperately to qualify. Fifty-eight teams qualified for post-section play, a notable failure being that of Wilsons Linwood rink, title-holders last. year, which, by losing the last game to-day. did not secure the requisite number of wins. The only players who secured the possible of eight wins ill section play were B. Myers (Avondale) and R. Thomas (Mount Albert). Teams which recorded seven wins were M. M. Sunde (Glen Eden), E. Newman (Thames), W. C. Franks (Balmoral). W. Bremner (West End). C. E. Addison (Edendale), J. Engebretsen (Wanganui), E. W. Taylor (Carlton), G. B. Evans (Hamilton). S. W. Thompson (Hillsboro). W. J. Shoi t (Pukekohe). H. Montgomery (Auckland). F. Livingstone (Onehunga). There were 39 teams with six wins and these, together with the five skips who tied in one section with five wins, will also contest in post-section play to-morrow. Post-section play in the singles and pairs events, which were suspended pending section play m the rinks, will be continued to-morrow. Section C, eighth round results were —Myers 28, Bennett 18; Smith 28. Elliott 11; Sunde 23, Clark 10; Brown 28, Moss 16; Purdy 28, Vincent 25. TO-DAY’S PLAY. I AUCKLAND, January IS. The weather was fine, but the wind was troublesome on the ninth day of the New Zealand bowling tourney. In the quarter-finals, post-section singles, J S. Martin (Ellerslie) 17, beat C. A. Rendle (Upper Hutt) 16. Early in the game, Martin led by five, and was ly~ ing four on the next head, when Rendle recovered his shot with his last bowl picking up the leeway. Rendle then fought neck and neck until they tied on the 20th end. The final end was built up well, with Martin lying a measure for shot. Rendle grazed the jack, still leaving a measure for shot, the marker-giving it iu favour of the Auckland (and the former Christchurch) champion of champions. . Quarter-finals, pairs: W.
