SOCIAL SECURITY BILL
HOMELAND PRESS COMMENT. [by CABLE —PBESS ASSN. —COPYBIGHT.] LONDON, September 3. The “Manchester Guardian,” in a leading article, describes New Zealand’s Social Security Bill as one of the most notable social measures introduced by the Dominion’s first Labour Government. The article review,si the Government’s programme, which, it declares, would astonish and might alarm any. country not having a vigorous record of ‘social progress. “But New Zealand led the way in legislation of this kind long before a Socialist Government was in power there, or in any part of the British Commonwealth. The present Government has benefited from a buoyant Budget, on which it can pursue pro-] gressive ideals. If it is not tempted in its zeal to carry the Dominion beyond its means, it. will be remembered for carrying on a remarkable tradition.”
