The Prime Minister announced that the possibility of initiating commercial negotiations with America has been informally discussed. The position is so complex that further special study is necessary in order to find a basis for negotiation. MINERS’ STRIKE THREAT SYDNEY, September 5. The Minors’ Directions Committee
officially announced that “the Committee has been working out the final preparations for a strike which it is considered would commence at the end of the wook.” Mr. W. Orr, general secretary of the Miners’ Federation, stated that if the various Governments and owners failed in (ho next few days to indicate their willingness to discuss the; miners’ claims, the Directions Committee has been authorised to issue immediate instructions for a general strike.
