COAL AND TIMBER EXPORTS

FIVE MONTHS’ RETURNS A decrease of almost two million feet in the export of timber from the port of Greymouth during the first five months of this year, as compared with the corresponding period of last year is disclosed in the figures of the Harbour Board. The export to Australia dwindled to under half of what it. was last year, but the deficiency in this direction was partially made up by an increase of over one hundred per cent, in the export to the other Dominion ports. The reverse was the ease with the coal export, in which an increase of almost 8000 tons was shown in the five months.

The timber figures, for the comparative five monthly periods, January— May inclusive, in superficial feet were; —
