STEIN DEFEATS BLOMFIELD

[PER press association.]

AUCKLAND, April 26.

A bright and spectacular professional wrestling contest, between “Lofty” Blomfield, of Auckland, and Sammy Stein, of America, Jewish champion of the world, ended in a win for Stein by one fall.'This was obtained in the sixth round.

Blomfield had his opponent in the cornel’ with what the referee considered a stranglehold, when the controlling official, Mr. J. McLean, ordered and forced a break. He was struck on the back of the neck by Blomfield. Almost immediately Stein bounced off the ropes with a flying tackle, which caught the referee unawares and sent both him and Blomfield sprawling. Stein then pounced on his opponent to win a fall with a body press, the referee having quickly regained his feet to witness the procedure and award the fall.

RUMBERG DEFEATS RICHARDS

WELLINGTON, April 26.

A brief and violent wrestling bout, in which fisticuffs were more plentiful than scientific holds, ended to-night in Hal Rumberg beating Ray Richards. Both were warned for using their fists.

Richards knocked Rumberg over with repeated shoulder tackles, and took a fall in the third round with a headlock and a press, In the fifth round, after a. good deal of exciting action, Rumberg dazed Richards with forearm jolts, and dumped him, knocking him out. Richards had barely entered the ring for the sixth round when Rumberg picked him up in a crutch-hold. The referee stopped the bout before he could dump him, as Richards was plainly incapable of further resistance.
