MANUFACTURERS TO ORGANISE
INDUSTRIAL EFFICIENCY ACT.
[per press association.]
AUCKLAND. April 26
Although the Minister for Industries and Commerce (Hon. D. G. Sullivan) has stated that the Bureau of Industries set up under the Industrial Efficiency Act is now investigating about 50 industries, very little appeal's to have been done among manufacturers generally in Auckland to bring their industries within the provisions of the act. Under the act. committees representative of industries can be appointed, which must be approved by the Minister and which will carry out, or assist in carrying out, the provisions of any plan approved by the Minister after it has been formulated by the bureau.
The Auckland Manufacturers’ Association has now communicated with its members, saying that it would be an advantage if associations or groups were formed to represent industries which could negotiate with the bureau should occasion arise. If there were no organisation within a trade or industry, the position would be unsatisfactory, both from the point of view of the bureau, which would have to seek information from individuals, and also from that of the industry, whose interests, because of no previous consideration of a question, might not be fully and fairly presented to the bureau.
