N.Z. TEAM OF SIXTY

[PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.]

WELLINGTON, April 26.

The chairman of the New Zealand Olympic and British Empire Games Association (Mr. H. McCormick) said to-day that present indications pointed to New Zealand sending a team of about GO competitors to the British Empire Games in Sydney next February. On this basis, national'associations would be asked to contribute £2O towards the expenses of each of their nominees. The rest of the expenses would be borne by the Olympic Association. “In addition to the competitors,” said Mr. McCormick, “we propose sending a manager and, if necessary, a chaperon, and their expenses will be met by the Olympic Association. We are suggesting to the national associations that they appoint at. their own expense sub-managers for their own section of the team, and also any masseurs or trainers they desire to accompany their nominees. The amount lhe national associations (will be asked to contribute towards the expenses of each of their nominees hinges on the numerical strength of the team.

“The association is required to advise the Australian authorities by May 31 of the sports in which New Zealand will be represented. It has been decided to write stating that New Zealand expects to be taking part in all the sports on the programme, namely, athletics (track and field), cycling, boxing, rowing, sculling, swimming, diving, wrestling, and lawn bowls.”
