LONDON, July 21
Il is understood that behind Mr. Norman Smith’s question to Mr. Elliott and Mr. Rnnciman, in Un* Commons, whether there is an understanding that no duty will he imposed on Dominions’ dairy produce, is a search for the reason for the abandonment of the proposal. Mr. Elliott communicated to the Dominion Premiers in June, 1935, that he intended to impose a duty of 15/- per hundredweight on Dominion butter, and 30/- on foreign. Messrs. Elliot and Runciman are uninformative, but it is generally assumed that the abandonment is not unconnected with Dr. Page's recent discussions with the .Ministers.
