BLACKBALL NOTES

[OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] A friendly game of League Football opened the season here, when Brunner Seniors journeyed to Blackball on Sunday. The game saw most men out of condition, Brunner winning by 11 points to 10. Mr. J. Neilson controlled the game. The Blackball mine is still idle through lack of orders. Roa mine worked only one shift last week. Although working yesterday it is expected to be another slack week. A meeting of the Loyal -Blackball Lodge M.U.O.F. was held in the Lodge Room last evening Bro. A. D. Robertson presiding over a fair attendance. Correspondence of a routine nature was dealt with and accounts to the amount of £3/17/6 were passed for payment. It was decided to invite tenders for the supply of music at the annual ball. Bros. A. McLuskie and J. Kidd were appointed joint secretaries for the ball.

The general meeting of the Returned Soldiers’ Association (Blackball SubBranch) was held in the Miners’ Hall on Sunday, Mr. J. Boag, chairman, presiding over a large attendance. Correspondence was on the heavy side and caused some interesting discussion. The balance sheet was adopted as satisfactory. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted: Chairman, Mr. J. Boag; Secretary, Mr. J. Williamson; Treasurer, Mr. D. Cochrane; Auditors, Messrs J. McGhie and T. Frickleton; Committee: Messrs J. Lowry, A. Gomme, E. Jones, T. Docherty, G. Nuttall. Mr. T. Crankshaw was elected as delegate for the Blade ball Sub-Branch. Mr. A. Leitch left this morning on a holiday visit to Christchurch. Mr. W. Kirk entered the Grey Hospital yesterday to undergo medical treatment. Mr. and Mrs. Fallon, Oamaru, who have been the guests of Constable and Mrs. Fallon, left on return to their home yesterday. Mrs. J. Gilmer, accompanied by her daughter Gwyn, left on Saturday, on a holiday visit to Christchurch. Mrs. E. Lilley who underwent an operation at the Grey Hospital recently, is progressing favourably. Mr. C. Lansdowne left this morning on a visit to Christchurch. Mr. C. Duske leaves on Thursday for Invercargill where he will spend an extended holiday. Mr. A. Robertson leaves Thursday for a brief visit to Christchurch. Mr. A. Gordon left to-day on a holi; day visit to Hamilton.
