RUGBY FOOTBALL

N. OTAGO REMINDER [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] OAMARU, April 7. Interviewed regarding the South Canterbury Rugby Union’s protest against the New Zealand Union allotting to North Otago a match against the New South Wales team, the President of the North Otago Union (MiH A. Gilchrist) expressed disgust at thfe South Canterbury attitude. “This is the first match against an Overseas team ever allotted to North Otago,” he said, “and this Union fully deserves consideration. The standard of play here is as good as in South Canterbury, whom North Otago beat here last season. When the Maori team played here in 1927, the gate was £314, of which £274 went to the New Zealand Union, after North Otago had paid the accommodation and managerial expenses. When the All Blacks played here, the gate was £352, • of which the New Zealand Union received £240, after the local union paid for the accommodation of the team, the New Zealand selectors, and entertainment. Surely, after that, North Otago is entitled to consideration. Furthermore, ' the fact that North « Otago owes the New Zealand Union nothing, should count in its favour. South Canterbury has been favoured with visits from the Springboks and the English team, so that it has nothing to complain about.”
