N.Z. WOMEN’S TOURNAMENT. [per press association.] CHRISTCHURCH, September 4. Most of the matches in the third day of the women’s provincial hockey tournament were closely contested. Canterbury A put up the biggest score of the day, namely 9 to nil, against the West Coast team. Marlborpugh lead in the A Section, with Central Otago only one point behind them. Canterbury A seems to have the best chance in the B section, while the C section should be between Southland and Eastern Southland A, both unbeaten teams. The results of. the games to-day were: — “A” Section. —Marlborough 2, Wairarapa 1; Wellington 2, Canterbury B 0; Central Otago 4, Otago 1. “B” Section. —Ruahine 3, Eastern Southland 1; Canterbury A. 9, West Coast 0. “C” Section.—Eastern Southland A 3, North Otago 0; Ashburton 4, Bush 2; Southland 4. South Canterbury 3. AUSTRALIAN v. MALVERN. CHRISTCHURCH, September 4. The Australian hockey team played the ninth match of its tour at Barfield to-day against Malvern. The visitors won a fast game by six goals to nil. The Malvern side held the visitors in half to a score of 1 to nil, but in the second half, the superior skill, combination and stick play of the Australians told a tale. TEST TEAM. CHRISTCHURCH, September 4. The following reserves have been selected for the test team to play Australia on Saturday: C. Rogers (Canterbury), R. Buller and L. Silver (Otago). ' | VISIT TO AUSTRALIA. CHRISTCHURCH, September 4. At the conference of the delegates of the New Zealand Women’s Hockey Association, held to-night, Miss Yorston stated that the Association proposed to send a New Zealand team to Australia -in July next. It would be necessary to raise a large sum. The team would participate in the Australian inter-State tourney, which would extend over a week, and play two and possibly four test matches. It was stated it would be necessary for the Association to discuss the matter further, and definitely discu.es what assistance could be given by the affiliated associations. A levy of one shilling a player was suggested.
