MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEET • The Management Committee of the West Coast Rugby Union met last evening, there being present: Messrs. J. Guy (acting-chairman), T. Mclntosh, W. Williams, F. H. Eggleton, J. Kyle, T. P. Ryan, and J. Cornish (club delegate). An apology for absence was received from Mr. J. E. Joyce (secretary) . Accounts amounting to £1 9s were passed for -payment. I A comprehensive report was received from the manager, Mr. A. L. Edwards (Cobden) on the visit of the West Coast primary schools’ representative team to the schools’ tournament at Nelson. —The report was received, and it was decided to thank Mr. Edwards for the manner in which he carried out his duties as manager, to the credit of the Coast Union, and for his splendid report. The Nelson Union forwarded a copy i of the amended rules for future prim- - ary schools’ tourneys, decided upon at i the meeting of school delegates during the tournament at Nelson. It was decided to thank the New Zealand Union for their grant towards I ° the schools’ tournament. I * It was decided to thank the Hawke’s J Bay Rugby Union for their invitation ! to attend the jubilee celebrations of the Bay Union at Napier on Saturday, and to ask Mr. J. O’Reilly, an old Coast representative, now re- , sident in Napier, to represent the Coast Union at the celebrations. •It was decided to advise the Denniston Pirates team that no match could be arranged for September 22, owing to there being no football at Greymouth that day, the occasion of the visit of senior and junior representative teams, but suggesting that a game might be arranged for September 15 or 29. Permission was granted for a Greymouth Civil Servants’ v. Westland Civil Servants’ match at Hokitika on Saturday. The Westland Sub-Union advised that Mr. A. Cutbush had been appointed referee of the Dittman Shield game, and D. Breeze referee of the junior rep. match, taking place at Hokitika on Saturday; also confirming September. .15, as the date for the McLean Trophy match at Greymouth. The Railway Department advised that the 12.50 pan. train to Hokitika would be delayed until 1.5 p.m., and would be speeded up to have it arrive at Hokitika at 2.20 p.m., and that the 5.25 p.m. Hokitika —Greymouth train would be delayed until 5.45 p.m.—Approved. Mr. W. Williams was appointed manager of the Greymouth Dittman Shield team for Saturday, B. Scandrett, .captain, and A. Bowes, vice-captain. The team will assemble at the Cobden Gymnasium on Friday at 7.30 p.m., for practice, and will assemble at Hokitika, at the Central Hotel.

The junior reps, will assemble on Thursday at 7.30 p.m., for practice at the Cobden Gymnasium, and will leave the Greymouth Post Office at 11.30 a.m. on Saturday, assembling at Hokitika, at the Club Hotel. Mr. F. F. Baillie was appointed manager, and D. Eggleton captain, of the team. J. Bell was appoitned captain, E. Collins vice-captain, and J. A. Mclnroe manager of the senior colts’, team to travel to Reefton on Saturday, the team to leave the Post Office at 12 noon. It was resolved that the Sub-Union be asked to send the winners of the southern junior competition to play Cobden A, winners of the Northern Division, at Kumara, for the Graham Wise Gup, on September 15. It was decided that the Coast senior reps., to play Wellington and Canterbury, and the Coast junior reps., to play Canterbury, be, chosen on Saturday evening. Mr. Ryan reported that arrangements had been made for the excursion train to Christchurch, for the Coast —Canterbury match, on September 22, to leave Ross at 12.15 a.m., Hokitika at 1.10. a.m., Greymouth at 2.30 a.m., and arrive at Christchurch at 8.23 a.m., leaving Christchurch on return at 11.10 p.m.; also-that fares had been arranged as follow: —From Ross 13/2 (children 7/11), from Hokitika 12/2 (children 6/7), from Kumara 11/6 (6/3), and from Greymouth 10/6 (5/9). Mr. Kyle volunteered to take charge of the sale of tickets. FIXTURES. Fixtures for Saturday, at Greymouth, were arranged as follow: — Third Grade: Blaketown v. Kumara.. at Kumara, at 3 p.m. (N. Eggleton); United v. Westport Old Boys, at Rugby Park, No. 2, 3 p.m. (R. Longstaff). Fourth Grade; Star v. Blaketown, at Rugby Park, No. 2. at 1.3,0 p.m. (E. Goodall). WESTLAND TEAMS. The Westland senior team to play Greymouth in the Dittman Shield game at Hokitika, on Saturday, will be: — Full-back: A. Mitchell (E). Three-quarters: Pfahlert (P.). Diedrichs (K.), Connolly (EL). Five-eighths: Muir (E), Hughes (E) Half-back: Davidson (E). Forwards: Kelly (E), B. Kelly (E), B. Walker (R), Hughes (E), Freitas (E), J. Jones (R), R. King (E), Monk (P). NELSON “SHIELD” TEAM. CHRISTCHURCH, September 24. The Nelson Seddon Shield team is as follow: — Full-back: Glover. Three-quarters: Busch, Stewart, Hippolite. Five-eighths: Boyce, Carey. Half-back: Simpson. Forwards: Ferguson, Thompson, Smith, McLean, Drummond, Chatterton. Craig and Hippolite. D. Max, when informed of the position, said he appreciated the selector’s position. The Nelson team had been together in a series of matches, and with all playing well, it would be hard for the selector to drop any one of them. However, he would keep fit, and if, in any eventuality, he was required to fill a vacancy, he would be ready. ASHBURTON WIN. ASHBURTON, September 4. Ashburton defeated Nelson by 6 points to 3 after a game in which the home team were in their opponents’ territory most of the time, due to their

superior weight in the forwards. All the points were made in the first spell. Stephen and McCormack scored tries for the winners, and McLean kicked u penalty for Nelson. A Simpson, the Nelson half, fractured both bones in his right leg, and was admitted to the hospital.
