BRADMAN MAINTAINS FORM

FAST-HIT CENTURY 30 RUNS FROM ONE OVER [BY OABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYBIGHT.] (Recd. September 5, 10 a.m.) > LONDON, September 4. Assisted by a heavy morning sea [ mist, the bowlers proved dangerous immediately upon resumption, the ball often rising awkwardly. Ames, hooked O’Reilly for four, but was out in Fleetwood-Smith’s second over. Fleetwood-Smith troubled Hammond, and after 200 appeared in 180 minutes, Hammond reached forward and was smartly stumped. Fleetwood-Smith thus claimed Hammond’s wicket in each of the two meetings of the tour. Hammond gave a delightful display. He was in for 75 minutes and hit ten fours. The batsmen were now hopelessly at sea. Valentine was caught off O’Reilly in the next over. Tennyson played on. O’Reilly obtained two wickets in three overs. Allom hit viciously, one going clean out of the ground. His 47 not out, was made in 40 minutes, and included three sixers, six fours. Nobody else looked like staying. Chapman strained a leg and employed Khan as runner. O’Reilly was in excellent form, and took 4 for 25. Ponsford and Brown batted steadily until the former lost his middle stump —1 for 81. Kippax gave a graceful exhibition until he was caught at the wicket. Brown’s clianceless 73 occupied 140 minutes. His was a skilled graceful display. With McCabe also out, the total was then 4 foi' 185. Bradman and Woodfull then became associated in a big partnership, which was unbroken at stumps. Bradman was in lively mood, placing cleverly. Woodfull also batted with rare vigour. Both reached 50 in 50 minutes.

Bradman’s 100 took only 90 minutes. He then hit Freeman successively for 4,6, 6,4, 6,4,; 30 off one over. His unfinished partnership with Woodfull added 182 in 80 minutes. Bradman batted in all 105 minutes. He was missed when one by Ames off Woolley, after which lie gave a glorious exhibition, hitting four sixers, and 17 fours. t Scores: — ENGLAND Xl.—First Innings.
