SUICIDE ON LAUNCH
SEQUEL TO WORRY. (FEB PRESS ASSOCIATION.] AUCKLAND, September 1. The death of William Hannes Brown, aged 44. was investigated today by the Corner, who found that deceased died on his launch on July 17, from veronal poison, self-admin-istered. A widow gave evidence that she and Brown were to have been married on July 18. On the day of his death, he asked her for £l5O. She refused to give it without security. She had previously lent him £lOO. He told her he had a private income of £4OO, and a salary of £l3/10/weekly. Subsequently, she learned his salary was £6/10/-. She had proposed to postpone the wedding to enable him to put his finances in order. He refused, and said something about there being an .easy way out. She had not taken him seriously. Evidence was given that Brown’s body was found nine days later on a bunk on his launch. Beside hinj was a note book, with the following words written in it: “Hark, God! All my worries are over.” There was a prayer book in his left hand. The deficit in his estate was about £l5O. The Coroner said it was quite clear the man was worried, and had committed suicide.
