HOCKEY

AUSTRALIA v. MARLBOROUGH. [FEB PBESS ASSOCIATION.] BLENHEIM, August 29. Under the best conditions experienced on the tour the Australian hockey team registered their biggest win to date defeating Marlborough by sto nil. T. u’e was brilliant sunshine and the dry ground admirably suited the visitors, who were able to reveal true form, playing exhilarating hockey. The tourists owed their success to superior stick work, and a better sense of. positional play; their passing being noteworthy for economy of strokes and skilful push shots were a feature. Against such a conifbination of strategy as the visitors employed, Marlborough were unable to score, but nevertheless mainlined a determined resistance. In the first spell, the tourists notched four goals. The ability of the home goalie, Andrill, was proyed by the fact that though the goal was heavily bombarded, he allowed only one further score. Stenning (2), Allen, Milner, and Irvine were the scorers.
