ALL BLACKS’ TOUR. [BY CABLE —PBEHB ASSN. —COPYBIGHT.] . SYDNEY, August 29. Replying to Mr Geddes’ complaint published here, concerning referees’ interpretation of rules during the All Blacks’ recent visit, Mr J. N. Oseda, secretary of the New South Wales "Union, expressed surprise at the comment, as no official objection, was made by Mr Geddes while here. Mr R. Cooney, who refereed the first Test, said that neither the New Zealand manager nor the players questioned his decision about putting the ball into the scrum.

A GOOD PROFIT. (Received August 30. 1 p.m. SYDNEY, August 30. The Rugby Union Secretary (Mr. Nosda.) says that the account of the All Blacks’ tour is not finalised, but . it is considered that the New South Wales Rugby Union will profit by at least £l5OO. The “Labour Daily” comments: It : is lucky that last Saturday’s colourless i game was the last, and not the first fixture, as there can be “washouts” in which Jupiter Pluvius plays no part. I Stuart Perkins, in the “Telegraph,” referring to Mr. Geddes’ complaint ■ about the Australian hooker, says that the scrummage law is universal, and though it is difficult for any official to stick strictly to the letter of the law, no one side was allowed the advantage in the first test. REFEREES APPOINTED [PEB PBESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, August 29. A. de Clifton, of Wellington, has been appointed referee of the Ranfurly Shield match at Napier on Saturday. Paton (Wellington) replaced Spratt (Taranaki) as referee in to-morrow’s match, New Zealand v. The Rest. MANAWATU v. TARANAKI PALMERSTON N„ August 29. Outclassing the home side fore and aft, Taranaki trounced Manawatu by 36 to' 15 in a representative Rugby game. The tourists had a three points lead at the interval, the homesters having held them well. After the resumption, Taranaki ran through repeatedly, scoring with great freedom. The visiting forwards gave a most convincing display, making the defeat more crushing than that suffered at the hands of Hawke’s Bay a month ago.

NELSON DEFEATED OAMARU, August 29. By good solo efforts by the backs, North Otago defeated Nelson touringteam here to-day by 20 points to 16. The visitors led 8 to 3 at the 'interval, but in the second spell, the home rearguard made fewer mistakes and found numerous holes in the defence and registered several nice tries. The points for the visitors came mostly from the forwards, who put plenty of life into their play, and showed splendid foot control in dribbling rushes, which repeatedly carved the defence. The North Otago pack, though beaten in the loose, held their own in set scrums, the tight and line-outs. The leadership of McLean and R. Hippolite made them an outstanding pair of the Nelson van, accurate kicking of the former being responsible for nearly half the side’s total. With the exception of Boyd, who revealed penetrative ability the remainder of the visitingbacks did not rise above the average. North Otago inside backs Calder and Mason, were always dangerous, but with faulty handling further out, the wingers, Cameron and McKenzie had few opportunities from concerted movements, although their pace stamped them as dangerous. Newland s, who played in the All Blacks trial was outstanding for North Otago and was the best forward on the ground. For Nelson, R. Hippolite (2) and Ferguson scored tries, McLean converting two and kicking a penalty. North Otago’s total was made up with tries by Calder (2), Dougherty and Newrlands (one each), while Easton kicked two penalties and made one conversion.

Hattersley, Cottrell, Lowry, Thompson, Brownlee, Deavoll, Manchester, Rankin. U.S.A. PROFESSIONALS. SAN FRANCISCO, August 28. The Australian Press Association learns that a proposal has been made for an American team of footballers, composed of 30 of the best known professional players in America to go to Australia and play exhibition matches during the Centenary, and possibly engage in the Rugby matches with Australian teams. Jack Patrick, who is Rugby coach to the Olympic Club here, and one or two other Australian and New Zealand Rugby exponents will probably be engaged to coach the Americans. The Australian Football and Rugby Associations may help to underwrite the tour. Blaketown seniors v.
