The picture is a romance of Hollywood, spiced with catchy song hits and bizarre dance ensembles. Bing Crosby, noted crooner of radio and motion pictures, plays the radio crooner role opposite Miss Davies. Six jingly melodies have been created for the film, “Our Big Loye Scene,” “Going Hollywood,” “We’ll Make Hay While the Sun Shines,” “Temptation,” “Cinderella’s Fella” and “After Sundown.” At Runanga to-night “Flying Devils” will be shown; and “The Love Nest” will be shown to-night at Blackball. HOKITIKA CHILDREN’S MATINEE. A great matinee programme will be screened at Hokitika on Saturday afternoon and evening, specially for the children. This holiday attraction will include the technicolour revue “Kiddies’ Revue,” “King of the Jungle,” Paramount Pictorial and a cartoon. MILITARY BALL. On Tuesday night next, at Schaef’s, will be one of the most colourful and joyous events of the year. Scores of uniforms, beautiful and dainty gowns all blending in a blaze of dazzling colour, will assist in making a scene indescribable in its animation and vivacity, the occasion being the Grand Military Ball. The Happiness Boys’ Orchestra will provide the music, making doubly sure the prospects of a perfect evening’s enjoyment. NELSON CREEK BALL. Excellent arrangements are being ’ made for the grand ball to be held ' in the Nelson Creek Hall on Satur- ' day, September 8, and dancers would 1 be well advised to reserve that date for an evening’s enjoyment. CONVENT OLD PUPILS’ BALL. Attended by more than four hundred and fifty couples, the Convent Old Pupils’ annual ball, at Schaef’s Hall on Tuesday night, was a decided success. The hall was splendidly decorated. Competitions for the tallest and shortest couples were won by Mr E. Bellamy and Missi K, Greaney, and Mr Coakley and Mrs O’Sullivan respectively. A Monte Carlo prize was won by Mr J. Guy and Miss D. Sutton. Messrs P. Coll and G. Murtha were M.’s C., and the music was supplied by the Happiness Boys’ Band.
