ST. BOTOLPH’S “IKANHOE.” The discovery that the Suffolk village of Ikon, near Saxmundham. is identical with the long’ lost Ikanhoe, where St. Botolph founded his monastery in the seventh century, will be signalised on June 17 (St. Botolph’s Day) by a, pilgrimage in honour of the saint. A special service will be held on the site of the monastery, at which Bom Benedict Ley, 0.5.8., of the Anglican Abbey of Nashdom, will preach. Though very little is known of St. Botolph, his name is perpetuated not only in the churches dedicated in his honour, but also in the names of Boston in Lincolnshire, Boston in America. Botcsdale, in Norfolk. Botolph. in Sussex'. tl was for long thought ihat. Boston, Lincolnshire, was identical with Ikanhoe. The City churches of St. Botolph mark the line of route of the translation of his relics to Westminster, where part, of his body lies in the Abbey. The remainder is al Thorney, Climbs., ami his head at Ely. St. Botolph was the pioneer of the Benedictine Order in England, having embraced the rule while travelling in France.
