, HAWKE’S BAY MISHAP. [pee pbess association.] ' HASTINGS, January 3. Minor damage to the Hawke’s Bay and East Coast Aero Club’s Moth machine was caused by a mishap on Waimarama beach. The aeroplane was piloted by E. A. Barker, a member of the Club, and carrying a boy as passenger. As it was about to take off at the southern end of tiie beach one of the wheels was caught by a. wave, and the braking effect of the water caused the machine to tip over on its back. Barker and his passenger climbed out unhurt. The wings of the overturned aeroplane were lightly bent. Several struts were broken, ami the benzine tank, which is on top of tiie upper wing, was severely crumpled. KINGSFORD SMITH. SYDNEY, January 4. ' Kingsford Smith stated that he is still undecided as to whether to louder for the aerial mail contract between Cootamundra and Singapore. He will probably devote much of his time in the immediate future to the development of services in New Zealand. He said that the establishment of a service between Sydney and New Zealand had not been seriously considered. The undertaking would be responsible.
