OTAGO v. SOUTHLAND [PEB PRESS ASSOCIATION.] DUNEDIN, December 8. The first inter-Provincial cricket match, of the season commenced today at Logan Park, when Otago met Southland. Southland scored 162. (Hallamore 48, Spence 36, McAra 21, Purdie 21). Badcock took five wickets for 44. O’Shea 2 for 41 and McKelvey 2 for 63. Otago had compiled 344 for five wickets at the close of the play. Badcock was 82 not out. Uttley 67, Talbot 69, Cox 58, Constable 28 (not out) and Elmes 26. HAWKE CUP WANGANUI, December 8. Requiring 256 runs in the second innings to win the Hawke Cup eliminating match against Wanganui, Rangitikei resumed this morning and secured the necessary runs with the loss of seven wickets, the innings ending at 2.42 p.m. Powell (69), A. Marshall (43) and R. D. Fullerton-Smith (not out, 42), were the principal scorers foi’ Rangitikei. M.C.C. AHEAD. (Recd. December 9, 11 a.m.) CALCUTTA, December 8. Bombay Presidency made 87 against Marylebone (Nichols 3/21, Verity 3/25). At stumps, Marylebone had lost 1 for 144 (Walters 54, Langridge not out 59). TO-MORROW’S REP. GAMES. To-morrow at the Recreation Ground, two representative cricket matches will be played. On the No. 1 wicket a Greymouth team will meet the Hokitika representatives, and on the No. 2 wicket, a second Greymouth team will meet the Reefton representatives. Both matches will commence at 10.30 a.m. Afternoon tea will be obtainable on the ground. The umpires have been appointed as follow: No. 1 wicket, Messrs A. Greenwood and A. Hopkinson; No. 2 wicket, Messrs W. Spender and W. Brown.
