CYCLE ROAD RACE
’ WON BY J. DANIELS. There were twieve starters in the cycle road race, conducted by the Greymouth-United Cycle Club last evening, and a splendid race resulted. The course was from the Suburban Hotel to Paroa and return, a distance of approximately nine miles. The finish was exciting, three riders, J. Daniels, J. Larking, and C. Watson riding almost abreast from the Sawyer’ Creek Bridge, to the finishing line. With a great effort, Daniels crossed the line half a length in front of Larking, who was a length clear of Watson. Honey was fourth, H. Wilson fifth, and D. Clarke sixth. The three placed men put up good time, and the back markers, P. Duffy and H. Turtill, could not get near them. Result: —J. Daniels 2min. 20sec., 1; J. Larking, 2min 3Csec., 2; C. Watson, 2min. 10sec., 3. Also competed: H. Goddisson, R. Rowlands, J Muir 3min. 15sec., R. Honey 2min. 20sec., D. Clarke, W. Innes 55sec., P. Duffy 20sec., H. Turtill scr. Won by half a length; a length. Times: 25min. 28sec., 25min. 38 l-ssec, 25min. IS 2-ssec.
