NEW EVENING PAPER. MELBOURNE, October 3. The new evening newspaper “The Star” was issued yesterday, approximately 250,000 copies being distributed.

MINERS DISMISSED. SYDNEY, October 31

The mining town of Cessnock received a severe blow when live hundred employees of the Aberdare extended colliery, one of the oldest in Cessnock district, received notice of dismissal.

BASIC WAGE. SYDNEY, October 31

Speaking at Randwick, the Minister of Labour and Industry (Air Dunningham.) said he did not consider £3/6/6 was an adequate wage lor a man with a, wife and family. “Tho State Government has not yet reached the foituiuite position when we can consider raising our own salaries. I hope when we do reach that position wo will be a, little more considerate."

WHEAT GROWERS’ DEMAND. CANBERRA, Octozer 31

Direct action in the form of an Aus-tralian-wide hold-up of wheat is.threatened in an unanimous resolution carried by tho conference of the Australian Wheatgrowers’ Federation. Rep,resenting forty thousand growers, the Federation demands immediate action by tho Federal Government to afford relief to the growers. “The Commonwealth Government, by adopting the International wheat agreement, got us into this mess. Now it ..must get us out of it,” said one delegate.
