Mrs Page (Cobden) who has been a patient in the Grey Hospital, was able to return to her' home on Saturday.

The funeral of the late Francis William Badger took place, on Saturday, at Karoro Cemetery. Rev. H. R. Fell conducted the services at deceased’s late residence, Heaphy Street, and at the graveside.

Passengers by 7 Saturday’s express from Christchurch, included: Miss A. Blackie, Mrs H. Moore, Mrs K. O’Brien, Mr D. Thomas, Miss L. Jamieson.

The funeral of the late Mrs Katharine McKendry took place, yesterday afternoon, at Karoro Cemetery. The services at St. Patrick’s' Church, and at the graveside, were conducted by Rev. Father Gregory.

.The death is annouficed from Wellington, of Mr J. A. Shand, war correspondent in the South African War, for many years efiitor of the “Thames Star” and sub-editor of the “New Zealand Times.” —Press Assn. '

Archbishop Julius celebrated his eighty-sixth birthday yesterday. He. was born in Richmond, England, on October 15, 1847. In spite of his age he is still active and enjoys good health.

Rev. Thomas W. Vealie, minister in charge of the Cambridge Terrace Methodist Church, Christchurch (formerly of Greymouth), will, for health reasons, retire from active service in April of next year. Mr Vealie entered the ministry in 1894.
