FARM TRAGEDY
WIFE FOUND DROWNED.

AUCKLAND, October 16
The body of Mrs. Lakey, wife of Samuel Lakey, farmer, of Rotowaro, near Huntly, was found in a pond this morning. It had been covered will) briar, which partly hid it. Neighbours noticed that the cows had not been milked, and found both Lakey and his wife missing. Their beds had not been slept in, and a shotgun, kept in the house, was not there. A party of Auckland, detectives have gone to join in the search.

A public meeting convened by the Wellington Relief Workers’ Union, last night, passed a resolution condemning piecework, and pledging support. to the LTnion in a campaign against it.—Press Assn.
“The number of teachers in New Zealand to-day without permanent positions totals 1465. With the output from the training college at the end of the year it will be brought up to 2000,” said Miss M. ,E. McGill, of Wellington, when addressing the Wanganui branch of the New 7 Zealand Educational Institute.
