LEAGUE FOOTBALL

INTER-ISLAND GAME CANCELLED. [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] AUCKLAND, July 14. The New Zealand Rugby League Council has decided to abandon the inter-island match this year, owing to the expense of assembling the South Island team in Auckland. TO-MORROW’S MATCHES. Conditions do not promise well for League matches to-morrow, and the playing fields will be in a heavy state. Should a postponement be avoided, the meeting between Runanga and Marist seniors at Wingham Park will attract a large following. It will be the third meeting of these teams this season, and bright football should result. Blackball and Pirates meet at Blackball, where the home team will be favourites, especially after their re-, cent good showings against Runanga and Marist. In the lower grades, matches have been arranged to take place at Wingham Park, Ngahere, and Brunner. Schoolboy matches set down for to-day, were postponed.
