LONDON, July 14. “The counties have had enough of the bodyline,” says the “Daily Sketch.” The paper discloses that fifteen out of seventeen first-class county captains have reached a “gentlemen’s agreement,” whereby the leg side will not be packed to a fast bowler in such manner that a batsman in defending his body essentially, will surrender his wicket. But the leg theory meaning bowling for catches by a slow or medium-paced bowler, will not be affected. This decision, the “Sketch” states, does not reflect on the Marylebone Club or on Jardine. It is merely a proof that less-accurate bowlers than Larwood are dangerous, while incompetent bowlers are a menace, tending to ruin the game. Rules will not be made, but it will be agreed that the bodyline is unsportsmanlike. Apparently Jardine and Carr are the only captains who are supporting bodyline. ______________
