THE FRENCH ATTITUDE [BY CABLE-PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.] LONDON, June 9, The “Daily Telegraph’s’’ Paris correspondent giving the French view of disarmament, says that M. Daladier insisted the rejection of any scheme f of mutual assistance between the European Powers, made it more essential that France should demand automatic and effective international control of armaments. M. Daladier declared that a three or four years’ probationary period musf precede any seriqus reduction in French armaments. The British and American Governments must be prepared to declare what steps they would take in the event of a violation of any convention negotiated., British and American statesmen had not succeeded in moving M. Daladier from this position. .• ; The “Morning Post’s” Paris correspondent says that M. Daladier proposed' disarmament by budget control, the suggested pact ensuring international action against any member violating the convention. RATIFICATION EXPECTED. PARIS, June 9. M. Daladier is unlikely to experience any difficulty in securing a majority for ratification of the Pact. Mussolini’s speech is favourably received by all sections of the press. MUSSOLINI ACCLAIMED. LONDON, June 9. “The Times’s” correspondent at Rome states that no achievement by Mussolini has aroused more genuine general satisfaction than the initialling of the Four Power Pact, of which, despite modifications which were essential, the ideas of the original project have been maintained. Europe is assured of at least ten years’ peace.
