The Industrial Commission of New South Wales to-day declared 44 hours as a standard working week for New South Wales. The employees in certain industries will have the right to apply for exemption. The employers’ representatives think that the Commission’s decision will retard industry in New South Wales, and favour Victoria, where 48 hours is almost universal. Victoria is already, for this very reason, capturing considerable trade from New South Wales factories.
