SWIMMING

LONG PLUNGE RECORD [PIR PBESS ASSOCIATION.] HASTINGS, November 14. The Dominion’s oldest fresh water swimming record was broken in Hastings last evening, when Carl Atkinson, of Napier, added two inches to the existing record for the long plunge. The event'was conducted according to official requirements, and the governing body will be asked to recognise the feat as a record. On March 14, 1919, W. Wilkinson plunged 65ft 2in at Hamilton. Since then all previous fresh water records except Wilkinson’s, had been broken. Atkinson holds also the Dominion 200 metres breaststroke record, and in his heyday won national championships in all events and all styles from 100 yards to a mile.
