RUNANGA NOTES

[OUB OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Mrs. R. Glover and Mrs. P. Chambers who are inmates of the Grey River Hospital are progressing favourably. The annual meeting of the Runanga Municipal Band was held in the Gymnasium last evening. Mr. F. Wylde presided over an attendance of 12, all comprising members of the band. The balance-sheet was read and adopted. The balance brought forward from last year was £l7/6/1. Receipts for the year amounted to £79/15/10, and the expenditure £76/4/- leaving a credit balance of £3/11/10. The main point of discussion was as to whether the •band should continue. The chairman stated that the past year had been a rather unfortunate one as the public had not supported the band in the same measure as in the past. The com ductor reported that practices were not so well attended as they had been earlier in the year He particularly stressed the point that the young members who were very enthusiastic previously were liot showing the same enthusiasm. His suggestion was that the band should comprise of twelve members who would attend practices

regularly in lieu of the eighteen present members, some of whom never attended. It was finally decided that all members be asked to attend on Monday evening and failing a full attendance, all absent members be asked to return their instruments. The motion that the band continue for a further six months and that the position be again reviewed at the end of that time, was carried. The election of officers resulted: President, Mr. F. Wylde; Vice-President, Mr. J. Unwin; Secretary, Mr. W. Hughes; Committee: Messrs C. Wright, D. Kendrick, J. Sheard, C. Pope, J. Hillan, President,

Vice President and Secretary. Conductor, Mr. G. Kerr. Assistant Conductor, Mr. J. Hillan; Librarians, Messrs R. Rae, C. Pope and J. Greening; Trustees Messrs R. Smith and J. Unwin. It was decided to appoint an auditor when required; ■ The secretary was thanked for his services in the past and was [granted £3 honorarium. In closing the meeting the chairman stated that he hoped the band would have a better year in 1932, and that the people would give it their support as it was a beneIfit for the public generally. The opening of the local tennis courts for the season takes place tomorrow when a Yankee tournament will .be played. Several members of other Clubs have notified their intention to be present. The crciket season will commence on Sunday when a match will be played at Dunollie.
