U.S.A. TARIFFS
SENATOR SUPPORTS REDUCTION [BY CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYBIGHT.] (Rec. July 11, 10 a.m.) VANCOUVER, July 10. At Little Rock (Arkansas) Senator Robinson, the Arkansas Democrat leader, said, to-day, that an effort would be made when Congress was again convened, to reduce the tariff rates.
The statement was in reply to one by Senator Watson. Indiana Republican leader is challenging Senator Robinson to assume the leadership and fight to make serious revision of the Hawley-Smoot tariff. At Salt Lake City, Senator Smoot, chairman of the Senate Financial Committee, made a charge that Senator Thomas wrote a letter to representatives of foreign Governments inviting criticism from their respective countries against the provisions of the Smoot-Hawley Bill.
