Monday will mark an important stage in the history of Otago, when a merger will take effect of two large and important business concerns, Cadbury Bros., Ltd., and R. Hudson and Co., Ltd., both of whom engage in the manufacture of chocolate, confectionery, and other goods. The businesses will be carried on under the style of Cadbury, Fry, and Hudson, Ltd. Mr George Sara (representing the Home firm), conducted the opening negotiations, and the arrangements made by him were finalised by Mr Barrow Cadbury on his visit to Dunedin a. month ago. The directors will be Messrs Richard Hudson (chairman), G. Sara, R. G. Hudson, and V. C: Smith. Tiie Commonwealth loan conversions have been so successful that the loan closes on April 7. After a respite, the Australian Loan Council will go on the market for new money. In the meantime, the loan quotations on ’change are improving. Stock Exchange investments market ended the week quietly. It was buoyant owing to the covering operations by the “bears” and there was some fairly large buying on behalf of investors seeking for sound stocks for permanent holding. NEW YORK FINANCES NEW YORK, March 29. It is understood that an amalgamation is pending of the Guaranty Trust, Bankers Trust, and the New York Trust Companies, with total reserves exceeding three thousand million dollars. There is no other recent combination so large.
